If you're looking to cover a small project, 1 oz of Polytex will do the trick and cover an area of about 27 square inches. If you're looking to cover a larger area, you'll need a ½ pint kit to cover 2 square feet, a pint kit to cover about 4 square feet, or a quart kit will cover about 8 square feet.
If you're looking to cover a really large area, a gallon kit of Polytex should do the trick with a coverage of about 35 square feet!
The thickness of the pouring epoxy coat is figured at 1/16". If you're thinking thicker or more coats, you'll need more material. You can even grab a 4-gallon kit that covers about 140 sq ft total.
No matter what size project you're working on, Polytex is a great way to cover it and get the job done right.
How to Use Polytex Epoxy Coating
Polytex consists of resin and hardener. The kit includes two parts that you will need to mix together.
We recommend mixing only the amount you need at a time. If you run a little short on a pour, you can easily mix more. However, the mix that is left over should be left to harden in its original container and then disposed of.
Make sure the surface you plan to coat epoxy resin on is dry and free of dust, wax, grease, and oil. You can apply tape or wax to the bottom surface of the item to be coated for easy removal of any drips.
Items You'll Need for the Project
- A mixing container that is smooth, has a flat bottom and is clean and free of dust.
- A stick to mix the two components.
- A brush to coat the edges and get into any crevices.
Taking Care of Air Bubbles
As the Polytex Clear Epoxy Resin sets up, bubbles will rise to the surface. Wait about 20 minutes after you pour to work the bubbles out. You can use Eat-A-Bubble or other techniques to get the bubbles off the surface. Take care to make sure your item is sealed before the pour to eliminate a lot of the bubbles.
