Tips for Installing Dove Cast Feet:

  1. Drill holes in the bird to attach the legs and feet.
  2. The legs do have a left and a right.
  3. If you look carefully at the top of the leg, they will be marked.
  4. Also remember that the hind toe goes to the inside of the bird.
  5. Attach the legs using an epoxy. If you want to bend the feet or legs, GO SLOW!
  6. Use a hair dryer to heat them and slowly bend them into position.
  7. You can also use a file and notch them from the under side of the knuckles to bend them around.
  8. Be careful because the dove cast feet are very small and can break easily.
  9. Reinforce the bent feet with a little super glue or apoxie sculpt.
  10. To blend the legs from the body of the dove, use a little Apoxie Sculpt to create a feather formation that looks for natural.
  11. Clean the legs and feet with vinegar or denatured alcohol before painting them.

While these feet were made by Richard Delise to replicate those of a life size dove, there are many other birds that have feet that are very similar or almost identical.

If you want to slightly alter the feet without making your own, simply add a little Apoxie sculpt to make areas thicker or bolder according to the bird you are trying to make.
