Liquitex Modeling Paste is a thick, acrylic putty that can be used to create texture on rigid supports or to make 3D forms. It dries to a durable, matte finish and can be mixed with other Liquitex mediums for a variety of effects, which makes it ideal for creating sculptures or reliefs.

How it works

Liquitex Modeling Paste is an artist's dream come true with this white opaque paste that dries to a hard, stone-like finish. This amazing paste dries hard so you can sand or carve it. It can be used on its own, mixed with color, or painted once dry with acrylics, oils, watercolors, graphite or dry pastels. It can be handled like clay and maintains paint adhesion, durability and archival quality.

How to use it

Modeling paste is a thick, white paste that is used to create a three-dimensional sculptural texture. It can be mixed with any color of Liquitex acrylic paint to create a tinted paste. Modeling paste should be applied in thin layers, allow each layer to dry before applying the next. It is important to let the paste dry slowly to avoid shrinkage cracks. If cracks do occur, allow the paste to dry completely and sand the substrate to a smooth finish. Retrowel the area using proper techniques, making sure that the cracks have been repaired.

When working with Modeling Paste, remember these key tips: 

-Drying too quickly can cause cosmetic cracks in the paste; be sure to give yourself enough time to work with it.

-The paste is not compatible with any non-acrylic media, so be sure to use it exclusively with acrylic paints and supports.

-If you're using the paste on a flexible support, mix it with another medium (like water)
