Finger Tape is strong yet lightweight.  The Tape can be used with the leather finger guard to hold the guard in place.  Sometimes the leather guards get stretched out, that's when the finger taper comes in handy.   It's not cut proof but gives protection from nicks and abrasions.  The finger tape cushions fingers when carving for long periods of time. The open mesh allows your skin to breath and is burn proof.  Finger Tape isn't just for carver's, some factory workers use it to grip the material/ product that they're working on.  Hot materials can burn you, but the tape will prevent burns and blisters.
