Green Head Mallard Flying/Taking Off

The Mallard is the most common duck in in the northern hemisphere. With a lifespan of 5-10 years and a species that is going strong you are likely to see many of the these ducks in a lifetime.

The full size Mallard is about 20-26" long with their body making about 2/3 of their length. Their wingspan is 32-39" and their bills are 1.7 to 2.4" long. They weigh in between 1.6 and 3.5 lbs.

  • Flying /Taking Off line view and wings fully extended with foot view tucked  back.
  • Expanded view of the web feet.
  • Top view of the mallard.
  • Side view.
  • Front view.
  • Wings with feather exploded view.
You will receive a carving pattern of a mallard flying/taking off, choose a male or a female.  Select from a full size, 1/2 size or 1/3 size pattern.  The mallard flying/taking off carving pattern will get you started in carving a either a male or female mallard flying.  You'll need reference material for painting, wood or cork to carve the duck from, eyes and you may make your own feet or purchase them.  We suggest making the cutout for the green mallard carving pattern in two pieces, the body and the head.

Recommendations for the Green Head Mallard Flying/Taking Off Carving Patterns:

 If you are carving the full size Mallard you can use.
  • 8-9 mm Dark Brown Eyes.
  • 17 1/4" x 6" x 5 1/2" Basswood or Tupelo the the body with the head.
  • 15 1/2" x 7" x 1 1/12" Basswood or Tupelo for the wings.
  • Feet.
For the 1/2 size Mallard use.
  • 4mm Dark Brown Eyes.
  • 8 1/2" x 3" x 3" Basswood or Tupelo for the body and head.
  • 8" x 3 1/2" x 1" Basswood or Tupelo for the wings.
For the 1/3 size Mallard use.
  • 3mm Dark Brown eyes.
  • 6" x 2" x 2 1/4" Basswood or Tupelo for the head and body.
  • 5" x 2 1/4" x 1/2" for the wing.
  • If you don't want to make your own feet, go with the cast feet.  They are the closest in size to a 1/2 size mallard and look very close to mallard feet
