Foredom Motor Brushes for 1/8HP

Foredom Motor Brushes are designed for a long lifespan, however they will eventually need to be replaced. We recommend checking them for wear periodically, and replacing them when they have worn down to 1/4".

It is important to replace both motor brushes even if one of them is less worn than the other. These Foredom Motor Brushes fit the following discontinued models: 1/8 HP Series SR, SRM, and SRB motors (not the current 1/6HP models). 115 and 230 Volt; 1/8HP Series S, SM, and SB motors. 115 and 230 Volt; and 1/4 HP Series H, HM, and HB motors. 115 and 230 Volt.

How The Foredom Motor Brushes for 1/8HP Work

Motor brushes help to transfer electrical current from the armature to the commutator, and they also help to brush away any debris that might be on the commutator. Over time, they will wear down from this continuous contact and will need to be replaced in order to keep your motor running properly. Replacing your motor brushes regularly will help to extend the life of your motor.

What Are They Made Of?

Foredom motor brushes are specially designed to provide long brush life and consistent performance in Foredom flexible shaft tools. The heart of the motor brush is a flexible copper pigtail that's imbedded in the brush and terminated in a U or disc terminal. Surrounded by a coil spring, the pigtail ensures proper brush pressure on the commutator as the brush wears.

The free end of the brush is curved to match the curvature of the commutator, and when the brush is inserted in the brush holder and the screw cap is in place, the pigtail contacts the inner metal tube to provide a current path to the brush.
